A GREAT START TO 2012

The first sale of the year started with a bang for the Border & Lakeland Holstein Show and Sale at Borderway, Carlisle. Cows and heifers averaged £2230 with a top price of 3,300gns for the overall Champion. Buyers were impressed with the quality on offer classy udders on wide powerful heifers came one after the other with some very impressive pedigrees to attract the top breeders.
The show was judged by the club president Mr Hutchinson from the Bowberhill herd near Appleby. The champion was Espland Pagewire Naomi consigned by DI & FM Cannon, Espland Hill, Appleby. She was a daughter of Braedale Pagewire from a twelve thousand kilo dam she sold for 3,300gns to Messrs H Th

Border & Lakeland Holstein Club have completed a series of 3 stockjudging meetings in recent days. The first was at Hillhead, Kirkpartick Fleming, Lockerbie, by kind permission of Robert, Margaret & Willie Fleming & in conjunction with The South West Scotland Holstein Club. Master Judge was Andrew Lawrie. Sponsors were World Wide Sires represented by George Wills.

Wood Farm Stockjudging Evening

Our third & final stockjudging meeting was held on Tues 14th June at Wood Farm, Thursby, Carlisle by kind permission of Kevin & Christine Wilson & family. This was a tremendous venue as their ne w set up was of great interest to many, we had an excellent turn out. The most we have ever had at a stockjudging. This kept the scorers on their toes but we got there!

Our Master Judge was John Jamieson, Woodhead. I am sure he must have thought he’d turned up at The Great Yorkshire Show to judge! Great credit to Kevin & his team for putting forward 2 tremendous classes of cattle, they really were a delight to see.

OUTFIELD STOCKJUDGING EVENING

Our second stockjudging evening took place on Friday 10th June at Outfield fm, Whittington, Carnforth, Lancs by kind permission of RW Bainbridge & Son.

Those who travelled to see the Twinfields Herd were not dissapointed. Richard & his father put forward 2 excellant classes of quality animals which included a 7th calver which could easily have passed as a 4th calver.

Our judge was Martin Dixon from Smallthwaite. Sponsors of the Open Class were Genus ABS represented by Ian Caddy.

HILLHEAD STOCKJUDGING RESULTS

A large crowd of 150 plus descended on Hillhead Fm, Kirkpatrck Fleming on Tuesday 7th June by kind permission of Robert, Margaret & Willie Fleming & the South West Scotland Holstein Club who very kindly allowed us to join them for their stockjudging evening.

The change in format to 4 classes of 4 animals plus a "championship" class made up of the 1st place in each class created added interest to our members who all enjoyed the evening very much.

The Fleming family put forward some excellent classes for our HYB members to judge aswell as the Open Competition which was very kindly sponsored by World Wide Sires, represented by George Wills. Our thanks go to
